Pep Talks come in handy when you’re dragging on getting something accomplished that’s on your top-priority to-do list. Instead of productive, you’re unable to get started, feeling frustrated, low energy or super distracted.
A good Pep Talk process creates a state shift.
A state shift is when you go from one mental emotional physical and spiritual set of conditions to another. In this case, changing from
State A: Unproductive, inefficient and frustrated
to
State B: Connected to your flow, feeling inspired, motivated, confident, focused and clear.
From where you are right now, this might look like at least a 180-degree shift! Actually, I propose it’s even more than that. If you take the spiritual dimension into account, in State A not only are you low/frustrated in mental/emotional/physical energy, your vibration is too. From a success psychology/Law of Attraction perspective, you’re drawing more frustrating conditions to you when you stay in State A. Eeeek!
Pep Talk State Shift process
Here’s a process you can use to shift yourself out of those low vibes into a higher-vibe state.
Step one – Snap out of where you’re at
So often we’re caught up in the moment, unconsciously wallowing in our frustrating experience, stuck in our heads in some form of analysis paralysis.
You have to notice that you’re having a bad time. You’ve heard of “Stop and smell the roses”…this time, Stop and smell your sh*t.
I’ve trained myself to identify when I’m grinding instead of flowing. I regularly ask myself the question, “What am I doing right now?” Then I learn how I’m feeling physically emotionally and mentally. I make sure I’m consciously choosing my State.
Step two – Decide what State you want to be in, how you want to be feeling
Next question is do I like where I’m at mentally and emotionally right now? And if not, what would make me happier?
I mapped out some of my personal preferences under State B above…choose your own! Feeling accomplished with the task at hand well-done is fair game!
Step three – State Shifting
Now I can compare the difference between where I’m at and where I want to be. How do I shift myself from one state to the other? Here’s 3 of my favorite and most reliable state shifting tips.
State Shift Tip 1: Be grateful for something, anything
I know it sounds cheesy and cliché, however gratitude serves multiple different purposes. Number one it changes what you’re looking at. Instead of looking at the thing you’re frustrated about and going to war with it and making it a bad experience, look at the whole situation in a different light. Shift to a different perspective, a bigger picture perspective.
As you shift your focus to anything you’re grateful for, your mind lightens up and happier chemicals are released. Shift your thoughts totally away from your project at first, then shift into the positive aspects of the project itself that you can be grateful for…such as learning/growth opportunities (including learning how to state shift!), your ability to serve the greater good, get paid, etc.
Keep going with the gratitude long enough to feel the difference, to know you’re shifting.
And since you’re not wound quite so tight, more energy is flowing through you, and gradually you become reconnected to your inspiration and creativity.
State Shift Tip 2: Move it or Take a Power Nap
My next favorite state-shift tool that combines well with gratitude is to physically shift. Move your body for a couple mins – flap your arms, do some neck rolls and dance moves, ya know you need it! Maybe take a 10-minute power nap (better set a timer). Or move to another in your home office, or get out of the house and go to a cafe.
Note: Gratitude and Pep Talking (Tip 3) can combine well with movement and napping.
State Shift Tip 3: Pep Talk Time
You shifted your head space and your physical space. To complete your shift into State B, tell yourself who you are now that you’re in State B. Using I AM statements, describe how you’re feeling and thinking now that you’re in State B, having completed your project with ease and satisfaction. In this step it’s essential that you only focus on the way you are going to conduct yourself emotionally and mentally.
For example “I am connected to my creative muse, and I am feeling my flow. I am seeing this task completed in a way that makes me feel accomplished from a job well done. I’m experiencing this deliverable achieving its greatest results.”
Step Four – Commit to Staying in State B
Dwell on these happy productive feelings, and stay committed to them for the duration of your project. Monitor yourself for openness and fluidity. Continuously embrace the positive benefits of this task.
Master the Art of Pep Talking
When I’m in State B, my work takes 50% or less time, my deliverables are much higher quality, and I’m happy and relaxed while I’m doing it. 😊
As you stay in this high-vibe state while you do this task, not only will the task at hand become easier to complete, it’s charged with your positivity and will vibrationally attract better results when it goes out into the world.
