Shamans and Counselors Collaborating
When a client is ready for the fast track to feeling better and thriving in their lives, Shamans and counselors collaborating together support their clients to make quick progress. The two skill sets are highly compatible as the Shaman works the spiritual and physical levels and the counselor supports on the mental and emotional levels (and they both overlap too).
Counselors have great training in psychological development and how an event can influence a client’s life for the long term. However even though some clients completely understand why they have symptoms, they aren’t able to make all the changes needed to get the results in their lives they most desire. They struggle with motivation to change their thinking and make better choices, so they repeat patterns of attracting undesirable people and situations.
This is where the Shamanic tool of soul retrieval can be of great assistance. The energy the client needs to make changes can be locked behind an old trauma, and unreachable using regular counseling methods. During soul retrieval, the Shaman finds where the undesirable patterns are stuck and heals the stored energy. With this energy returned, clients can more easily make changes and better choices, leaving the old patterns behind.
Shamanism is Not for Everyone
Not all clients are a good fit for Shamanism, and during intake most Shamans will refer them to a qualified counselor or psychologist. If a person has not achieved stability with sobriety or with mental health medications, it may be too soon to work with a Shaman. This is because clients need to have enough stability to integrate the deep changes created with Shamanic work. This is a great reason for a short sample session — to see how the client responds to Shamanic work, and if they integrate a brief session well, it indicates good potential to benefit from more Shamanic work.
